REMINDER!! Things are going away…..

REPEAT MESSAGE FROM LAST WEEK…….Please note that inks and paper will disappear fast. If there is something that you want, I suggest getting it sooner rather than later!CM100500B

Items from the occasions catalog that are retiring.

Items from the annual catalog that are retiring.

Please watch the ** and *** “asterisks” on the retirement lists. While some of these items are NOT going away, they will be un-bundled in the annual catalog and you will no longer be able to obtain them at the bundled 10 percent discount!

Repeat after me….change is good — change is very, very good!

Most everyone hates change, but there are times that change is a good thing. In this instance, it is going to be AWESOME!Generally, every five years, Stampin’ Up! does a color revamp as they pay attention to current trends in clothing, home decor, furniture, etc. The last time there was a revamp of colors was in 2013. I was a demo for about a year when that revamp happened–wished I had known it was coming as I had a LOT of ink pads, markers and re-inkers that I had just purchased disappear. Ah well, you live and you learn!

Ink pads are changing too….

Stampin’ Up! has redesigned the stamp case and formula for stamp pads.   The details behind this decision follows:

Why did Stampin’ Up! change the case? The case’s manufacturing mold was about to expire. Stampin’ Up! can only use a mold a limited number of times before it needs to replaced, so they had to decide if they wanted to order more of the same molds or try to improve the design. They decided to improve it!

Do I have to replace all of my old pads? ABSOLUTELY NOT! Your old pads will still work and the new ink refills can be used on the stamp pads in the old cases. The EXCEPTION to that is basic gray and basic black archival inks (Archival and Classic inks should not be mixed).

So, how did the case improve?

  • They will be less confusing to open. Opening the new ink pad case is now more simple and intuitive—just insert your thumb in the lip at the front of the case and lift it to open.
  • They have a tighter fit between the lid and the base. With the new design, the lid doesn’t accidentally become disconnected, which was a common problem with the old case style. With use, the lid will be easier to slide open and close.
  • Stack-ability. Being able to stack the cases makes them easier to store and transport. We designed a nub in each bottom corner that fits nicely into the dimple on the top of another case. Tip: Removing the label stickers from the bottom of the case (after applying the needed labels to the case) also makes the ink pads stack a little better.
  • Include improved labels and stickers. Here are a few of the ways we’ve done that:
    • The top label now has a cleaner, bolder design and a larger color swatch, making it easier to see the ink’s color.
    • The stickers include a new In Color icon.
    • We’ve continued to provide color stickers that can be placed on the end of each case to easily identify the ink’s color at a glance.
    • We’re introducing a new color sticker you can place on the inside of the case, so you can easily distinguish the ink’s color when the case is open.

How is the ink different? Stampin’ Up! improved the ink formula because the old ink would sometimes bubble, especially on new pads and with lighter colors. The improved ink formula will:

  • Reduce ink bubbles.
  • Help you get a smooth coating of ink on the stamp.
  • Help lay down the ink better.

How do I know if my Classic Ink Refill has the new and improved ink? Beginning with the 2018–2019 Annual Catalog, all ink refills will have the improved ink formula. Also, if you  recently received an ink refill and it has the new branding label, it contains the improved ink formula.

Can I use an old ink refill on a new ink pad or a new ink refill on an old ink pad? Yes! You absolutely can with the exception of the Basic Gray Archival and Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ inks. Archival and Classic inks should not be mixed. All other Classic Stampin’ inks will work fine.

Where is the archival ink? Archival ink will no longer be part of our ink offering. Basic Gray will now be part of the Classic Stampin’ ink family. Please note that you cannot use an archival ink refill on the new Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad, as this will ruin the new ink pad. Only use Classic Stampin’ ink refills on Classic Stampin’ pads. Your best options for black ink pads are the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad, to use with Blends and general black stamping needs, and the Jet Black StazOn Pad, to use for watercolor and nonporous surface stamping. Both will be part of our ink offering.

Will the updated Classic Stampin’ Pad case fit in the Color Caddy? Yes, it will fit into the Color Caddy–just not as tightly as the previous ink pad style. If you’ve stored the updated pads in your caddy, you’ll want to be careful when rotating the caddy and not turn it too fast. Please note that the color caddy will be retiring on May 31st or while supplies last – if you want it, you need to get it now!

If you have any questions about the color revamp, the new ink pads or the In Colors, please contact me by leaving a message in the comments section below or give me a call!

Remembering Alyssa Jo Furman

It has been a roller coaster 24 hours. It was about 4:00 p.m. yesterday that we found out that my niece AJ was about to get new lungs. At 10:30 last night, we were informed that was not meant to be–the lungs were no good.

Early this morning (3/28/18), God called home his newest angel! AJ’s lung transplant was not to be. She is now resting in His precious arms!

Along with continued prayers, we are needing a bit of help to get Alyssa’s body home from St. Paul, MN to Oshkosh, WI. I have set up a fundraiser to help my brother and his family out during this difficult time. Won’t you please consider helping our family out?

https://www.youcaring.com/dougfurmanfamily-1148145

As my sister Mare Mare so eloquently put it this morning, “Alyssa can breathe again, but the rest of us, our breath has been taken away!”

Fly free beautiful butterfly…your cocoon is open wide!

Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life.  And everyone deserves a little sunshine.

Thoughts and Musings…Hope and Hugs…

The last few days have been a bit of a struggle. My 21-year-old niece has been fighting for her life. This quote truly hit home!

49229-Thomas-Fuller-Quote-Health-is-not-valued-till-sickness-comes.jpg

Alyssa Jo from Kokomo (as my dad lovingly called her) was born with cystic fibrosis. It is a horrid disease.

It is a disease that is as hard to pronounce for little kids as it is to live with on a daily basis. Young kids think it is pronounced 65 roses.

Can you imagine, waking up every day and not being able to breathe? I surely can’t and I will tell you that I truly take that for granted (as I am sure most anybody does). Alyssa can’t!

I remember AJ as a little girl, my brother and his wife always having to beat on her back to loosen the mucus that gathered in her lungs to clear them out enough for her to breathe. They always felt they were abusing their baby girl, but if you did not do it, she would not have lived.

Alyssa has been inside the hospital so many times that you lose count! At least on a yearly basis she would be in because she caught a bug and her breathing became more labored. Constant medications, constant treatment, constant prayers, constant…constant…constant!

A person with CF has to complete a combination of the following therapies on a DAILY basis:

  • Airway clearance to help loosen and get rid of the thick mucus that can build up in the lungs. Some airway clearance techniques require help from family members, friends, or respiratory therapists. Many people with CF use an inflatable vest that vibrates the chest at a high frequency to help loosen and thin mucus.
  • Inhaled medicines to open the airways or thin the mucus. These are liquid medicines that are made into a mist or aerosol and then inhaled through a nebulizer. These medicines include antibiotics to fight lung infections and therapies to help keep the airways clear.
  • Pancreatic enzyme supplement capsules to improve the absorption of vital nutrients. These supplements are taken with every meal and most snacks. People with CF also usually take multivitamins.

My niece is waiting to be put on the transplant list for new lungs. She was not sick enough a couple of weeks ago to be put on the transplant list — and now, she is too sick! The doctors are working hard on getting her to the point when she can be added.

AJ had emergency surgery late yesterday (3/20). They have bypassed her heart and lungs so they don’t have to work so hard right now for her. She continues to be on a ventilator and will be on it for a while. She is a fighter and we hope she continues to fight the good fight. She’s turned this corner but is not out of the woods yet, by any means.

The hardest part is being in Wisconsin as they are going through these struggles in Minnesota. I want to be there in the worst way–not only for Alyssa, but for my brother Doug and his wife Sam and their other kids Corina and Ryan. However, I am battling a cold right now and I can’t risk compromising anyone’s health.

This reminds me of one of my favorite cards. Hope and Hugs…that and many, many, many prayers are what I keep sending to my brother and his family these days!

Hope & Hugs Flat with envelope

Hug your loved ones everyone. You never know when you will be able to do so again! And if you believe in the power of prayer (I do–as I am living proof they work), please say a prayer for AJ and her family!

THANK YOU!

Cindy Lou

I hosted my card buffet this past Saturday and had a blast with a 12 x 12 One-Sheet-Wonder class. It was GREAT fun! Here are the cards that we made. I had masculine card stock and feminine card stock available to play with.

Here are copies of the cards that were made (2 of each design). One Sheet Wonder Cards #1

I don’t usually put sentiments on the inside of my cards. I like to write personal messages to folks. I had to chuckle, because inside EACH of these cards is a sentiment! Maybe I am changing my ways?!?!

Tired of Ice–Need Some Spring!

Show of hands, who is tired of the cold and ice? I AM!

As you can see, the post earlier last week, and this one have to do with flowers. I am SOOOOOOO ready for spring and warmer weather.

Lemon Lime Birthday Front

The card base is 4 1/4″ x 11″ WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK (#100730) scored at 5 1/2″.

The LEMON LIME TWIST ink (#144086) that was used on emboss resist floral paper (cut to 4″ X 5 1/4″) resonates spring to me. A baby wipe was used to color the edges of this paper.

Happy Birthday Lime Green.jpg

Another layer of  WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK was used (cut to 3 3/4″ x 4″). I hand-colored the head of the flowers with CAJUN CRAZE STAMPIN’ WRITE MARKER (#131262) and the stem with LEMON LIME TWIST STAMPIN’ WRITE MARKER (#144033). The sentiment was stamped in CAJUN CRAZE (#126695) as well!

I added a bow using the LEMON LIME TWIST 1/2″ FINELY WOVEN RIBBON (#144135) to help make this card pop.

Busy, Busy, BUSY!

This week and weekend was a very busy one. We started advising and registration for summer and fall classes at work this week. So I was chained to my desk managing all of the classes to get our students enrolled in!

Friday and Saturday were busy as I supported my baby girl (who happens to be 27 years young) and her Bateman team members as they spread awareness for childhood cancer for With Purpose.

Friday night, we went to the new home of Fire Escape and painted on canvas and wood. I made two pieces–one to donate for the With Purpose cause, the other to keep for myself. It was GREAT fun and I can’t wait to go back and create some more!

IMG-0571.JPG
Chuck Schultz (Catie’s Dad), my baby girl, Catie & myself with our creations!

On Saturday, the Bateman Team did an open house at Mahoney’s restaurant with a silent auction and door prizes for all who attended the event. The team also was able to bring in (via Skype) the founder of With Purpose, Erin Benson. The story that she shared of the inspiration for With Purpose, her son Sam, was a tear-jerker.

Artwork auctioned off during open house with proceeds benefitting With Purpose.

After the open house, my baby girl and I went to dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Great food, WONDERFUL company and a full belly…..what a way to finish a great day!

Why am I telling you all of this? Well, first to raise awareness for the With Purpose cause. Did you know that over the last 30 years, there have been only four new treatments approved by the FDA for childhood cancer? Also, did you know that the National Cancer Institute designates only four percent of its research budget to all forms of childhood cancer? I don’t know about you, if you ask me, these numbers are DEPLORABLE!

Secondly, I tell you all this because I got a little bit behind on creating a blog post last week. So, this week, I will be bringing you two!

At the last card buffet, I had done one of my favorite techniques and that is using Versa Mark ink and then going over that with eye shadow. It brings in such a soft look that I LOVE!

Sympathy w-Eye Shadow Standing.jpg

Card base is using WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK (#: 100730) (cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ — scored at 5 1/2″).

A baby wipe was used to add color with PERFECT PLUM (#126963) to the outside edges of emboss resist polka dotted paper (cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″). The baby wipe brings a soft look to the color and allows you to put color down quickly and easily.

Another layer of WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK was used (cut to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″). Using VERSAMARK (#102283) stamped the flower blossom and stem and then utilized a plum eyeshadow to color the flower and sage green to color the stem.

Inside Sentiment for Sympathy with Eye Shadow
Inside sentiment

Using PERFECT PLUM ink, the sentiment was stamped inside the card. The card was finished off with a scrap of plum ribbon that I had on hand.

With Sympathy Side View with Eye Shadow

A side view of the card shows that the layer adhered to the card base was popped up with STAMPIN’ DIMENSIONALS (#104430). The top layer was adhered using SNAIL ADHESIVE (#104332).
