Busy, Busy, BUSY!

This week and weekend was a very busy one. We started advising and registration for summer and fall classes at work this week. So I was chained to my desk managing all of the classes to get our students enrolled in!

Friday and Saturday were busy as I supported my baby girl (who happens to be 27 years young) and her Bateman team members as they spread awareness for childhood cancer for With Purpose.

Friday night, we went to the new home of Fire Escape and painted on canvas and wood. I made two pieces–one to donate for the With Purpose cause, the other to keep for myself. It was GREAT fun and I can’t wait to go back and create some more!

On Saturday, the Bateman Team did an open house at Mahoney’s restaurant with a silent auction and door prizes for all who attended the event. The team also was able to bring in (via Skype) the founder of With Purpose, Erin Benson. The story that she shared of the inspiration for With Purpose, her son Sam, was a tear-jerker.

Artwork auctioned off during open house with proceeds benefitting With Purpose.

After the open house, my baby girl and I went to dinner to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Great food, WONDERFUL company and a full belly…..what a way to finish a great day!

Why am I telling you all of this? Well, first to raise awareness for the With Purpose cause. Did you know that over the last 30 years, there have been only four new treatments approved by the FDA for childhood cancer? Also, did you know that the National Cancer Institute designates only four percent of its research budget to all forms of childhood cancer? I don’t know about you, if you ask me, these numbers are DEPLORABLE!

Secondly, I tell you all this because I got a little bit behind on creating a blog post last week. So, this week, I will be bringing you two!

At the last card buffet, I had done one of my favorite techniques and that is using Versa Mark ink and then going over that with eye shadow. It brings in such a soft look that I LOVE!

Card base is using WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK (#: 100730) (cut to 4 1/4″ x 11″ — scored at 5 1/2″).

A baby wipe was used to add color with PERFECT PLUM (#126963) to the outside edges of emboss resist polka dotted paper (cut to 4″ x 5 1/4″). The baby wipe brings a soft look to the color and allows you to put color down quickly and easily.

Another layer of WHISPER WHITE CARDSTOCK was used (cut to 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″). Using VERSAMARK (#102283) stamped the flower blossom and stem and then utilized a plum eyeshadow to color the flower and sage green to color the stem.

Inside sentiment

Using PERFECT PLUM ink, the sentiment was stamped inside the card. The card was finished off with a scrap of plum ribbon that I had on hand.

A side view of the card shows that the layer adhered to the card base was popped up with STAMPIN’ DIMENSIONALS (#104430). The top layer was adhered using SNAIL ADHESIVE (#104332).
